An Illustrative Example

Published: August 16, 2008, Author: JayTaber

An illustrative example of indigenous cultural resources squaring off against commercial exploitation is the Panther Spring of Mt. Shasta, sacred to the Winnemum Wintu tribe. In blatant disregard of this indigenous property right, bottling companies like Nestle have been draining the pure aquifer to sell water in plastic to yuppies. Fortunately for all of us, California Attorney General Jerry Brown stepped in to prevent Nestle from ignoring the environmental impact of manufacturing 3 billion plastic bottles.
