Displacing Sustainable Ways

Published: November 11, 2011, Author: JayTaber

The governments of Germany and Russia have teamed up to bring the Nenet people of the Yamal Peninsula into the modern age through energy development on their indigenous territory. The Nenets, reindeer herders practicing sustainable, ancient animal husbandry, can now cease their independent nomadic ways and join other displaced tribal peoples in urban slums where alcoholism is a common symptom of the modern way of life.

Maybe Chancellor Merkel and President Medvedev will get a UN Millenium Development award for their efforts.
