As the first state to adopt the indigenous human rights initiative supported by the UN declaration, Bolivia occupies a special place of distinction in the consciousness of mankind. The fact that the United States of America has elected to directly undermine this historic undertaking to make amends must not go uncontested. Indeed, for the sake of democracy and human rights worldwide, indigenous people and their friends throughout North America must now take an active stand against this travesty. The National Congress of American Indians and Assembly of First Nations must not hesitate to take a leadership role.
