People in a Changing World

How do human-environment relationships affect the reality of communities, concepts of health and well-being?

This is the topic of discussions during a conference in Europe’s High North- the 7th International Kastelli Symposium, organized by Thule Institute, University of Oulu in co-operation with University of Arctic Thematic Networks on Global Change and Arctic Medicine, taking place 17/18 Nov. 2010.

Specific fields of the management and exploitation of natural resources, environment and climate change are analysed, forecasting the future of human-environment relationships with respect to health, economic- and socio-cultural wellbeing, societal resilience, adaptation and transformability as well as vulnerability in the backdrop of changing lanscapes.
The immense value of indigenous knowledge is key part of these discussions. Conference participants emphasize there is so much to learn and understand through indigenous experiences and wisdom.
