Biographical Information:Dr. LaVerne H. Stevens is a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time of the GAIN Cultural Sensitivity Summit, she was the GAIN Sr. Clinical Training and Product Developer at the GAIN Coordinating Center (GCC) of Chestnut Health Systems. In that role, she developed the protocols for GAIN clinical interpretation training. Dr. Stevens chaired the GAIN Cultural Sensitivity Summit and then served as chairperson of the GCC’s Cultural Sensitivity Steering Committee. She holds a MS Ed in Community Counseling from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a PhD in Christian Counseling from South Florida Theological Seminary in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Dr. Stevens holds certification with the National Board for Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor and a Master Addictions Counselor. She has extensive experience in overseeing and managing treatment programs and community support programs for people with substance use disorders; incarcerated women and their families; the homeless; and other special populations.
