This document, authored by NGO Cultural Survival, was prepared for the 31st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review in 2018. It describes the current state of indigenous human rights in China, concluding that poverty had declined among Chinese indigenous peoples, but such communities still suffered from low educational attainment and participation in the labor force. Further, basic rights such as the right to self-determination, the right to peace and security, and the right to religious traditions and customs are violated at an alarming rate.
