The Endangered Species Act (ESA) is among the most powerful enviromental statutes of the United States. But for Indian Tribes, the ESA is a double edged sword. One the one hand, the ESA can bring the force of the federal government to bear on trying to prevent species of concern to tribal communitites from being extinct.
