April 9, 1980. Max Baucus, Democratic senator of Montana, challenges Bonneville Power Administration?s (BPA) plan to build transmission lines through the western part of Montana. The lines would carry 500-kilovolts of electricity to the West Coast from the Colstrip power plant. Baucus says that if the BPA built the lines, it would deprive Montana?s state revenue. He commented that the state attorney general?s office was preparing a suit to enforce compliance with the state utility siting act.
