Writing at Bolivia Rising, Julieta Paredes observes that while the Indigenous peoples reclamation of their rightful place in Bolivia still has things to work out with the state apparatus, the legitimacy of the Morales administration is not questionable. Although transnational corporations and foreign states like the US do all in their power to undermine the Indigenous peoples accomplishment in Bolivia, the process that put Morales in the presidency and began to turn around the centuries of colonial repression of their aspirations was genuine. So while many may find something to criticize in the Bolivian state, it is nevertheless a product of the Indigenous revolution sweeping the Andes, and leading the way against neoliberalism. And that is no small achievement.
