Goals Objectives and Resilience

Goals Objectives and Resilience

The most fascinating non-tribal political organization of the last ten years was without a doubt the Direct Action Network (DAN), which strategically subverted the World Trade Organization (WTO) spectacle in November 1999. As an ephemeral affinity group — inspired in part by the 1994 Zapatista uprising against the feudal globalization plan sponsored by the WTO, IMF and World Bank — DAN also exercised global political influence replicated at other gatherings of the world’s economic elite. Another organization that comes to mind, that has been both enduring as well as adaptable in fighting globalization — especially in terms of political sustainability for long-term struggle — is Sinn Fein, which has much to teach us about goals, objectives, and resilience.
