Emulating the strategy used in Colombia, US officials are now coordinating with Guatemalan officials on plans for removing indigenous communities. Using military, police and mercenaries to clear indigenous peoples in order to make way for biofuel plantations has proven a quick and effective method of gaining control of indigenous homelands. Under the pretense of fighting the war on drugs, which often ends up being merely a fight to determine who will profit from drug-running, ethnic cleansing and sometimes genocide are commonly overlooked by corporate media. All part of privatizing collective economies that has its roots in slavery and colonialism.
