Vengeance is a terrible thing. The horrific brutality visited upon the children and grandchildren of the indigenous warriors who defeated the U.S. Seventh Cavalry at the Little Bighorn has left lasting scars. But, as strong people, Lakota proved hard to extinguish. Even the deliberate and effective ethnic cleansing of Indian boarding schools failed in all its cruelty to curtail the collective spirit of Lakota.
