As President Obama announces his plans for accelerated development in Africa, one is reminded that a quarter of the Earth’s mineral resources are located there, including substantial oil reserves. As the Pentagon formulates its plans for expanding the US military presence on the African continent, one wonders how much blood Obama will shed to keep Africa’s oil flowing to our shores. Given that the financial giant Goldman Sachs, which financed the political career of President Obama, is also a major trader of global oil, we expect the answer to that question is “quite a lot”.
