Kinder Gentler Theft

Published: December 3, 2009, Author: JayTaber

After inviting foreign corporations to steal Mapuche lands with the support of army and police, the government of Chile has offered to give the Mapuche some subsistence plots if they will surrender their rights under international law. Facing increased international criticism for using anti-terrorism laws against indigenous activists, Chile has apparently opted for the US/Canadian model of token respect for the law, while systematically stealing everything they can get their hands on. A kinder, gentler theft.
