As I noted in this August 2008 testimonial, The Real News Network has broken new ground by including the indigenous perspective. As states like China and the US try to close down the free Internet, attacking whistleblowers and ransacking independent media centers, those of us working to extend democracy and human rights need news free of government or market interference. By supporting producers like Real News and digests like Intercontinental Cry, participants in the World Indigenous Peoples’ Movement help maintain the opening we need to have indigenous voices heard. Someday, with luck, there will be a worldwide daily broadcast of news produced by and for indigenous peoples; in the meantime, we need all the friends we can get.
