Peter d’Errico discusses the Doctrine of Discovery dilemma at the UN, where member states that inherited indigenous lands from invading Christian empires are panicked about the pressure to examine the legitimacy of their current dominance over Fourth World nations. As he notes, pretending to care and seek reconciliation rather than make amends only adds insult to injury. In light of the phony and reluctant endorsements of indigenous human rights by Canada, Australia and the United States, d’Errico’s warning to keep an eye on the covert maneuvers of these dominant states deserves our full attention.
The library is dedicated to the memory of Secwepemc Chief George Manuel (1921-1989), to the nations of the Fourth World and to the elders and generations to come.
