The diabetes epidemic could wipe out Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population this century, a Melbourne-based expert has warned. Professor Paul Zimmet, director of Monash University’s International Diabetes Institute, says escalating rates of the disease in the world’s indigenous communities will decimate whole cultures.
