In this video on the Psychophysical Effects of Environmental Racism, CWIS associate scholar Taiaiake Alfred discusses a motivating vision to reconnect indigenous peoples with their ancestral cultures that resonates as authentic, versus maintaining a colonial environment. Enumerating alienation from land, culture and community as rooted in dispossession, development and contamination, Professor Alfred advocates for restoration over compensation as a means of reestablishing spiritual, mental and physical health.
The library is dedicated to the memory of Secwepemc Chief George Manuel (1921-1989), to the nations of the Fourth World and to the elders and generations to come.
