Global Research News Hour interviews John Schertow, editor and publisher of Intercontinental Cry magazine, about Idle No More and the world indigenous movement. During the first half of the January 17 show hosted by Michael Welch, Schertow notes the divisions within the movement in Canada are by colonial design, and that the re-emergence of indigenous nationhood has sparked civil disobedience across the country in opposition to the domination by Ottawa. As the liberation movement escalates its tactics to counter Canada’s attempts to terminate First Nations, grassroots indigenous leaders are seeking a complete transformation of the political system that systematically steals their land and resources. As noted by many of the dissident chiefs and movement organizers, rule by repression must be replaced by the creation of authentic democratic architecture.
