Fiji’s unpredictable military commander met with the nation’s indigenous chiefs Friday, after the traditional leaders said they will not mediate in an escalating row between the government and armed forces. Commodore Frank Bainimarama had refused Thursday to attend the Great Council of Chiefs meeting, saying they had already decided to support the indigenous Fijian-dominated government’s contentious parliamentary bills, which Bainimarama wants scrapped.
The library is dedicated to the memory of Secwepemc Chief George Manuel (1921-1989), to the nations of the Fourth World and to the elders and generations to come.
