Nine Vancouver Island First Nations, supported by Amnesty International, have successfully brought their claim against the Government of Canada before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. As their claim proceeds to the merits stage, the Commission found the Canadian legal system and the British Columbia Treaty Commission process completely ineffective in providing adequate remedies for human rights violations committed against indigenous people.
The library is dedicated to the memory of Secwepemc Chief George Manuel (1921-1989), to the nations of the Fourth World and to the elders and generations to come.
